Fast answer

Leave the car in a municipal car park near the centre or on your approach road, then walk in. On 13 August 2026 the Comune listed eleven municipal parking areas near the town centre and along the approach roads, including the Piazza Aldo Moro underground car park. The historic centre has ZTL camera gates, so do not follow sat-nav to a door inside it. The Comune's list gives no charges, so read the signs where you park.

If you only do one thing

Choose a car park from the Comune's list before you arrive, check its signs for hours and charges, and walk into the old town instead of driving through a ZTL gate. Ask your accommodation where to unload luggage, then keep the first evening on Via Nardelli and the old town.

Where to park: the Comune's municipal car parks

The Comune di Locorotondo published this list of municipal parking areas near the town centre and along the approach roads on 13 August 2026, with a map, for the San Rocco festival. Names are as published; English notes are in square brackets.

  • Parcheggio Interrato Piazza Aldo Moro [underground]
  • Parcheggio Rotatoria Via Martina Franca [roundabout]
  • Parcheggio Via Sant'Annibale Maria di Francia
  • Parcheggio Cimitero Comunale [municipal cemetery]
  • Parcheggio Largo Unità D'Italia
  • Parcheggi Zone Limitrofe Scuola "Cinquenoci" [around the school]
  • Parcheggio "Blocchettificio Palmisano"
  • Parcheggi Campo Sportivo - Viale Olimpia (Area anteriore e posteriore) [sports ground, front and rear]
  • Parcheggio Via Martiri della Libertà
  • Parcheggio Via Maestro Cataldo Curri (angolo Via San Pantaleo) [corner of Via San Pantaleo]
  • Parcheggio "Villette" in Via San Pantaleo

The list does not give charges, hours or live space, and it was published for the festival. For the 2025/26 Christmas events the Comune announced temporary paid parking areas, so read the signs where you leave the car. For "Natale a Locorotondo 2026" the Comune gave indicative dates of 22 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 and invited parking and shuttle proposals; its call does not confirm stops, timetables or availability. Check the operating programme before visiting.

Do not drive into the old town on sat-nav

The historic centre has a limited-traffic zone (ZTL) with camera gates at Piazza Dante, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Aldo Moro by Corso XX Settembre, and Via Vittorio Veneto at Porta Nuova. Under the Comune's rules, a lit ZTL ATTIVA sign means only authorised vehicles may pass, each gate has its own hours, and parking inside the zone is for authorised vehicles only. The latest season notice on the Comune site ran the gates from 1 May to 30 September 2025, so check the gate signs and ask your accommodation before driving to its door.

Next decision

Parking sorted? Pick the stay that keeps arrival easy.

Once the car and luggage plan is clear, compare the old town, Via Nardelli, countryside and stays near the station before choosing accommodation.

Arrival decision

Make the car plan before the evening plan.

Locorotondo is compact, but a car arrival can still create friction. Start with parking, luggage, rail handoffs, and event-night uncertainty, then decide how much of the first evening should stay on the belvedere and old-town edge.

Make parking the first step

Locorotondo rewards a slow evening, but a car arrival goes wrong when the car is pointed at the old town. Pick a car park from the Comune's municipal list that suits the road you arrive on, leave the car there and walk in. Sort luggage with your accommodation's instructions first: when the ZTL gates are active, only authorised vehicles may pass them. Do not plan around a tariff or a free space; the Comune's list does not give either.

Use the station area as a friction check

Even on a car trip, the station area matters because mixed arrivals are common: one person may come by rail, luggage may shape the first hour, or the group may be testing whether Locorotondo works without using the car every day. Keep this as a logistics checkpoint, not as a promise that rail movement will be simple on the exact travel date.

Let Via Nardelli orient the first evening

Once the car and luggage are handled, Via Nardelli gives the first evening a clean shape: view edge first, then old-town streets, then dinner only if the group still has energy. The area can orient the walk, but it should not be used to promise quiet rooms, guaranteed views, or easy movement during events.

Keep aperitivo flexible

Aperitivo works best here as a rhythm rather than a fixed venue claim. Use the belvedere walk to slow the arrival down, then decide locally whether a drink makes sense. Specific bars, hours, tables, and crowd levels need a separate dining check before they become recommendations.

Confirm dinner before settling on a venue

The first night should stay compact: old town, wine context, and a short walk back rather than a complicated countryside plan. This guide can help keep the evening contained, but it should not choose restaurants, wine bars, wineries, booking windows, or event-night dinner tactics until those details are checked separately.

Before you rely on this

  • This guide does not recommend a parking lot, quote a tariff, or confirm that a car park has space on your date; it repeats the municipal list the Comune published on 13 August 2026.
  • The latest ZTL season notice on the Comune site covers 1 May to 30 September 2025. Check the gate signs and any newer Comune notice before driving into the centre.
  • Train service, replacement transport, luggage storage, onward rides, walking comfort, and event dates need fresh checks before travel.
  • Restaurant, wine bar, aperitivo venue, opening hours, and booking advice need a separate dining review.
FAQ

Quick planning questions.

Where can I park in Locorotondo?

Use the municipal parking areas the Comune listed on 13 August 2026, which sit near the town centre and along the approach roads. They include the Piazza Aldo Moro underground car park, Largo Unità d'Italia, Via Martiri della Libertà and the Campo Sportivo car parks on Viale Olimpia. Check the signs where you leave the car for hours and charges.

Is parking in Locorotondo free?

The Comune's list does not say which areas charge, so check the signs and any payment machine where you leave the car. For the 2025/26 Christmas events the Comune announced temporary paid parking areas, so charges can change with events and seasons. For "Natale a Locorotondo 2026" the Comune gave indicative dates of 22 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 and invited parking and shuttle proposals; its call does not confirm stops, timetables or availability. Check the operating programme before visiting.

Can I drive into Locorotondo old town?

Not freely. The centre has ZTL camera gates at Piazza Dante, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Aldo Moro by Corso XX Settembre, and Via Vittorio Veneto at Porta Nuova. When a gate shows ZTL ATTIVA, only authorised vehicles may pass, and parking inside the zone is for authorised vehicles only. The Comune's 2025 notice ran the gates from 1 May to 30 September; ask your accommodation about access before driving in.

What if part of the group arrives by train?

Treat the station as a separate arrival check. Confirm the train or replacement bus, the exact stop, luggage and the walk or ride to your accommodation for your date, then meet the drivers once the car is parked.
